Helping you and your family grow with Healthy Start Vitamins

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a child aged up to four years old, you could be eligible to receive Healthy Start Vitamins. These will help you and your family grow and stay healthy.

They are available through the Healthy Start scheme and are means-tested.

Visit your local Whitworth Pharmacy to swap your Healthy Start Vitamin vouchers for vitamins and give your family the best start in life.

Healthy Start Vitamins are vitamin supplements designed to keep you and your family healthy. The children’s vitamin drops contain vitamin A, C and D and the vitamin tablets for women contain vitamin C, vitamin D and folic acid.

They are an important way we can stay healthy and ensure our families can grow, even if we already eat a healthy, balanced diet.

Here are some compelling facts from the Healthy Start website

  • 8% of children under five in the UK don’t have enough vitamin A in their diet

  • Families in lower-income groups tend to have less vitamin C in their diet

  • All pregnant and breastfeeding women and young children are at risk of vitamin D deficiency

Healthy Start Vitamins are for pregnant women, women with a child under 12 months old and children up to four years old who are receiving Healthy Start Vouchers.

You could be eligible if you’re claiming;

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance *

  • Child Tax Credit with a family income of £16,190 or less per year

  • Pension Credit; or

  • Universal Credit with no earned income or total earned income of £408 or less per month for the family. (To find this refer to your Universal Credit award notice in the section “your take home pay for this month”.)

You will also be eligible if you’re under 18 and pregnant or with a young child, even if you don’t claim any of the above vitamins. Find out more here.

  • If you’d like to get Healthy Start Vitamins and believe that you and your family are eligible, you need to first apply to the Healthy Start scheme by filling out a form.

There are three ways you can get a form

    • Ask your midwife or health visitor.

    • Call the Healthy Start helpline on 0345 607 6823 and ask them to send you one.

    • Fill in the form online then print it.

You’ll next need to complete the form, sign it and then send it to:

    Freepost RRTR-SYAE-JKCR
    Healthy Start Issuing Unit
    PO Box 1067
    Warrington
    WA55 1EG

You won’t need to use a stamp.

Once they’ve received your form and have confirmed your details, you should receive your vouchers within two weeks.

You can then bring these vouchers into your local branch of Whitworth Pharmacies and we can swap them for your Healthy Start Vitamins.

    • I eat a healthy diet. Do I still need vitamins? Yes, you will get most of the vitamins you need by eating a healthy, balanced diet. However, young children and pregnant and/or breastfeeding women may struggle to get enough of certain vitamins. Taking these vitamins helps ensure your whole family have what they need to grow and stay healthy.

    • Is there an electronic/digital version of the Healthy Start vouchers? No, Healthy Start vouchers only exist in paper form at the moment.

    • Can you deliver my Healthy Start Vitamins? Unfortunately, we can’t currently deliver Healthy Start Vitamins as we need to receive the paper version of your vouchers.

*Only available in select Whitworth Pharmacies, speak to your local branch to find out more.

Families on lower incomes often have lower levels of essential vitamins in their diet. Healthy Start Vitamins could help your family grow and stay healthy. Check your eligibility at your local Whitworth Pharmacy.
