There is nothing worse than discovering your child has nits. They are itchy, irritating and can be stubborn to get rid of.
But there is no need to worry with our head lice treatment scheme.
Pop into your local Whitworth Pharmacy and we can help you sort that nit problem fast. Alternatively, you can shop online and have your head lice treatment delivered to your home.
Head lice are very small insects that like to live in clean, healthy hair.
Their eggs are called nits and are brown or white empty shells that you can find loose in the hair. The insects themselves are the head lice and attach themselves to strands of hair.
The itching that most people experience is caused by an allergic reaction to the louse bite.
You should always treat head lice as soon as you spot them and check everyone in the house. Adults can catch and transmit head lice just as easily as kids!
The symptoms of head lice include:
An itchy scalp
The feeling that something is moving in your hair
A rash on the back of your neck
Small white eggshells (nits) behind the ears or at the back of the neck
However, the only way to check that it is head lice (and not something else like psoriasis, dandruff or sensitivity to a shampoo) is to check for live lice. You can do this by using a special fine-toothed comb. These are inexpensive and easily available from your local pharmacy.
Frequently asked questions:

Simply pop into your local Whitworth Pharmacy with your child and ask to talk to the pharmacist.

However, there are certain criteria that we have to meet under this scheme. For example, the NHS recommends that you try wet combing first, before applying chemical treatments. This is to protect your child and to help ensure any head lice treatment is effective.
