Find out more about undertaking your foundation training year training placement at one of our friendly community pharmacies.

Foundation Year Training That Builds Bridges

When you are training to become a pharmacist, you must undertake 52 weeks of practical training in a patient-facing role.

By joining the Whitworth team you will benefit from outstanding support from your designated supervisor, development and the opportunities you need to grow your career.

You will put everything you’ve learned at university into context and develop a holistic view of providing pharmacy services. You’ll connect with patients, learn how to be a leader, and develop the ability to provide a high standard of care to all patients, regardless of their health challenges or background.

Why choose Whitworth Pharmacy for your Foundation Training Year placement?

High quality training

You only have to look at our success rates from previous pre-registration pharmacists to see why becoming part of the Whitworth Pharmacy team can benefit your career.

Flexible, adaptable, and tailor-made for your needs, our training allows you to become the knowledgeable and supportive pharmacist that you always wanted to become.

With your new understanding of hands-on healthcare and the importance of preventative medicine, MDS provision, OTC sales, patient advice and prescribing competency frameworks, you will kick-start your career as a pharmacist in the right way.

Trainee pharmacist support

At Whitworth pharmacy, you will have support from a designated supervisor who will be free to answer your most pressing questions about your pharmacy training. Our team is also here to provide the support and assurance you need should you have any doubts or concerns.

As one of our, previously known, pre-reg trainees, Mike says, “The team make it clear that there is no such thing as a silly question and will help with any problems, no matter how big or small.”

Multi-sector training

We offer our trainees the opportunity to explore different sectors within our pharmacies. This helps to ensure you gain maximum benefit from your experience and can boost your future career opportunities.

Should you require more experience, we can transfer you between  our participating branches.

Future employment opportunities

Provided you pass your foundation training assessment, we can offer you a wide range of career opportunities that help you nurture your skills whilst providing high-quality healthcare to the community. We will welcome you into the team with open arms.

Testimonials

“I enjoy the close-knit team and the support that I have received when I have needed it. I have never been let down when requesting any help. I am particularly happy with the offer to continue working with Whitworth as a provisionally registered pharmacist and appreciate the opportunity very much during this challenging COVID period.”

-Mike Pre-Reg

“The level of support I received from the company, my tutor, and the staff/colleagues I worked with was fantastic. They supported me through my studies, answered any queries or questions I had about my role and about practicing as a pharmacist.”

-Tejus Pre-Reg

The impact of the COVID pandemic on the process of becoming a fully registered pharmacist has caused a lot of stress, uncertainty and anxiety for many pre-registration pharmacists. For the second year running, we supported our pre-registration pharmacists who registered on the provisional register. Not only did this give them continuity of employment, it also helped them take the next step towards working as Responsible Pharmacists in our pharmacies and with their professional development. The importance of pharmacists working in community pharmacy has been demonstrated by our involvement in fighting the COVID pandemic and we , look forward to working with our provisionally registered pharmacists who have all now registered as pharmacists.
